Licensing/Purchasing

I installed VetDAR with my clinic Name and Serial Number. Why is it asking me to activate my license now?

Because VetDAR is licensed per computer, activation of VetDAR is a two step process. During installation you will be asked to provide the Clinic/Hospital name which the license belongs to and the Serial Number and Maintenance Plan provided on your invoice. This verifies that you in fact own a license for VetDAR and will allow you to install the software.

When you run VetDAR for the first time, you will be prompted to the activate the license on that specific computer. This ensures VetDAR is not being installed on more computers than licenses have been purchased for. If additional licenses are needed, they may be purchased.

I am replacing a computer, do I have to purchase a new computer license?

If are installing VetDAR on a new computer, and have permanently uninstalled VetDAR from the old computer, you may deactivate that license to reuse it. To do this, go to www.vetdar.com, click the login link in the upper right corner of the page, and login using your serial number. On the resulting account management page, click on "Manage Workstation Licenses". On this page, you will be given the option to deactivate active lincenses.

Installation

Can VetDAR be installed on multiple computers?

If I uninstall VetDAR, will I lose my cases?

If I uninstall VetDAR, will I lose my cases?

No. Because VetDAR uses Microsoft SQL Server to store all of the data, simply uninstalling the VetDAR program will not remove any of the cases or other settings for VetDAR.

If you do wish to completely uninstall all of the data associated with VetDAR, you will need to run the uninstaller for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 from your computer's control panel program uninstallation menu and select the VetDAR instance to uninstall. DOING SO WILL PERMANENTLY UNINSTALL ALL VETDAR CASES AND DATA.

Features and Capabilities

Can I run more than one case on a computer?

Yes and no. The simple answer to this question is no, VetDAR will not allow you to have more than one case open at a time.

In reality though, it is possible to run more than one case on a single computer at once by running multiple versions of VetDAR. To do this, open VetDAR by clicking on the program shortcut or start menu icon and create or open your first case. When you are ready to open a second case click on the shortcut or start menu icon a second time. This will open a second instance of VetDAR, allowing you to open or create a separate case.

In theory, this process can be repeated an infinite number of times, limited only by the amount of physical memory and the processor power of the computer. On an average computer, one should probably not open more than 2-3 cases at a time.

Best Practices

It seems like there is a lot of information to input, do I need to fill out everything for every case?

No. VetDAR provides the ability to store a large amount of information for every case, but it is not necessary nor will it even always be possible to fill out every field for every case. The information that is absolutely necessary to run a case is denoted by an asterisk in the new case wizard. Beyond this information, additional information is ancilary to the case and should be included based on the practitioner's preference or clinic's policies.

While the additional information is not required, some of the fields may be important for the integrity of the case record, and each practice should carefully examine what fields they wish to require.
